Introduction
Elwynn Forest is considered one of the best starting areas in WoW Classic. While primarily populated by Humans, many players from other races travel here due to its questing efficiency and overall convenience. The zone contains multiple questing hubs where players will spend time before moving on to more challenging regions. It also serves as the gateway to Stormwind, the most popular major city in the Classic Era.

Central Locations of Elywnn Forest
Northshire

- The starting area for Human characters, featuring the Northshire Abbey.
- Contains early quests focused on Kobolds, wolves, and bandits, as well as the first class trainers.
- Players complete the introductory quests before being directed to Goldshire.
Goldshire

- The central hub of Elwynn Forest, home to the Lion’s Pride Inn.
- Contains trainers, vendors, and several key quest chains.
- Often crowded due to roleplaying and its proximity to Stormwind.
Westbrook Garrison & Hogger’s Area

- A military outpost located west of Goldshire.
- Players receive quests to deal with the infamous Hogger and Riverpaw Gnolls.
- The Hogger quest is an early challenge due to his elite status.
Maclure Farm & Stonefield Farm

- Two rival farms are involved in multiple questlines.
- The Maclure Farm features the quest Princess Must Die!, involving a large aggressive pig.
- The Stonefield Farm has a tragic love story involving a feud between the two families.
Eastvale Logging Camp
- Located on the eastern side of Elwynn Forest.
- Contains quests involving wolves and clusters of Murlocs.
- Often overlooked, but provides a good experience for players before heading to Westfall.
Elwynn Forest’s Notable Named Mobs
Garrick Padfoot – Bounty on Garrick Padfoot (Level 5)

- Located in Northshire, the human Starting area.
- A Defias bandit leader was found in a small camp outside Northshire.
- Drops Garrick’s Head for an early quest.
Hogger – Wanted: “Hogger” (Level 11 Elite)

- The feared gnoll leader of the Riverpaw pack was found west of Westbrook Garrison.
- Known as an early game “boss” due to his high damage and elite status.
- Often requires a group to defeat Hogger safely unless you follow this guide: How to defeat Hogger solo.
Mother Fang – The Fargodeep Mine (Level 10)
- A giant spider is located deep in the Jasperlode Mine.
- Players must navigate through the Kobolds to find her.
The Collector – The Collector (Level 8)
- A Defias agent is hiding in a small house near Brackwell Pumpkin Patch.
- Drops The Collector’s Ring, which can be turned in to Marshal Dughan.
Princess – Princess Must Die! (Level 9, with two adds)

- An overgrown pig found at Maclure Farm.
- Accompanied by two aggressive boars, making the fight difficult for low-level players.
- Drops Collar of Princess, needed to complete the quest.
Where after Elywnn Forest?
After completing Elwynn Forest, players have several options for their next destination:
Westfall (Recommended for Level 10-20)

- Home of the Defias Brotherhood and the Deadmines dungeon.
- Players begin the Defias questline, which leads into a major storyline.
- Higher mob density but good experience gains.
Redridge Mountains (Level 15-25)

- A sunny, orange area featuring Lakeshire and its ongoing struggle against murlocs, spiders, gnolls, orcs, and some elite enemies.
- Contains the famous Redridge Bridge and challenging quests for level 18-22 players.
Duskwood (Level 20-30)

- A dark, eerie zone filled with undead, worgen, and the Night Watch storyline.
- One of the most lore-rich zones, featuring Stalvan’s Mystery and Mor’ladim.
- Stitches patrols the path, and there is a chance that another player has started the quest, which brings him in close proximity to lower-level players who can be two-shot by him. This is a hazardous area that many choose to avoid in hardcore for this reason.
Loch Modan (Level 10-20)

- A scenic, dwarven-controlled zone.
- Good for levelling with fewer contested mobs compared to Westfall.
- Leads into Wetlands and further travel routes for Alliance players.
- Has Horde Elites patrolling the Eastern sector of Loch Modan.
Darkshore (Level 10-20)

- Night elven area in Kalimdor, filled with beasts and Nagas. – difficult to get to as a non-night elf alliance race at 10-15.
- Long Coast with safe levelling routes, a lack of elites makes this area relatively safer than its counterparts.
- Leads into Ashenvale (Level 18 – 30)
Other Alliance Starting Areas for levels 1 – 10 (For Alternative Leveling Paths)
You could try going to another level 1-10 area that other races typically do, as a hardcore strategy to overlevel for the upcoming areas, such as heading into Westfall at a higher level, i.e., Level 14, to minimize risk.
- Dun Morogh (Dwarf/Gnome Starter Zone) – Leads into Loch Modan, very similar terrain.
- Teldrassil (Night Elf Starter Zone) – A secluded area leading into Darkshore.
