The Deadmines serves as a level 18-23 instance found within Westfall’s Defias stronghold at Moonbrook. This dungeon typically marks the first group content experience for Alliance characters progressing through the game.

Hardcore WoW Safe Spots & Evade Locations

In hardcore World of Warcraft, death means permanent character loss, making knowledge of safe spots and evade locations absolutely critical for survival. The Deadmines presents unique challenges for hardcore players due to its tight corridors, patrol patterns, and dangerous boss mechanics.

We’ll walk you through numerous safe spots and evade locations in chronological order as you progress through the dungeon, from the initial entrance areas all the way to the final boss encounters. Each location has been tested for reliability and can serve as a crucial fallback position when pulls go wrong, adds spawn unexpectedly, or you need to reset encounters safely. These strategic positions could be the difference between completing your run and losing your hardcore character to an avoidable death.

Minecart Safe Spot

Minecarts found in the first tunnels of the Dungeon – The minecarts can force melee mobs to reset and return to their spawn points, effectively breaking combat. If the initial minecart doesn’t fully reset melee mobs, quickly move to another connecting minecart if possible. Switching between multiple minecarts significantly improves your chances of forcing a complete melee reset, as the additional positioning changes often break any remaining combat locks.

However, ranged casting elites may maintain aggro, and so you should primarily use minecarts as your primary reset method for melee-heavy pulls, hopping between multiple carts if available.

First Boss Room Evade Spots

Pile of Crates – A pile of Crates can be found to the left of Rhahk’Zor, and a pipe can be found behind the left add. This is best used when the ranged adds near Rhahk’Zor aren’t also agroed, as they are ranged most of the time and will continue attacking after landing on the safe spot.

Back of Room pipes – A much safer spot is behind the pipes at the back of the room. Hop over the pipe, and line of sight the ranged adds, and nothing can attack you from any angle. This is said to work for some; however, it does not work for me, and so I recommend using the box of crates to slow down the pace of the fight in an emergency.

Sneeds Room Safe Spots

Log Evade – Run up the log in Sneed’s room to evade many melee mobs. This protects from ground-based melee attacks.

The next two safe spots are typically used after engaging with the Boss of this room, Sneed, as you’ll need to follow his patrol route to access them.

Front Ledge – The ledge towards the front of the hanging log also works as an evade spot; however, casters can sometimes still hit you from this position. (Number 1 in the photo)

End Ledge – Head up the ramp and jump onto the log hanging over the room. The ledge at the very end provides complete safety from everything. (Number 2 in the photo)

Leaving Sneed’s Room Safe Spots

First Spot – Mainly useful for specific situations, such as elite patrol catching up while dealing with the patrol of the area.

Lava Pot Safe Spot

Foundry Chains – Two big chains, one on each side of the Foundry room. Each chain serves as an evade spot, but precise jumping is required – don’t miss the jump, or you’ll take damage as well as struggle to find another evade spot before dying.

Torch Before Boat safe Spot

Plank Evades – Any of the planks with torches on them serve as evade spots. These are scattered throughout the dock area leading to the boat section.

Smite Pillar safe Spot

Pillar Evades – The pillars near Mr. Smite can be used to evade attacks and also provide line-of-sight breaks to avoid his stun ability. Cancel auto-attacks by pressing escape for the line-of-sight trick to work correctly. You can get on it by using the railings of the bridge.

Famous Boat Wheel Safe Spot

Ship’s Wheel – The wheel on the boat serves as a spot to evade. You can hop up onto it if needed for emergency protection from surrounding enemies. This is the most commonly used and known spot for Deadmines; however, people don’t know you can get on it from the bottom, using the route shown.

Boat Edges Safe Spot

All Sides – Every side of the boat works as an evade spot, providing multiple escape options when fighting on the ship’s deck. There are numerous situated around the boat, all of which can be used to evade mobs.

Last Two evade Spots Before Exit

Pillar Spot – The pillar down near the exit area of the boat serves as a final evade spot. This may be a tricky spot to hit at times. (Number 1 in the picture shown)

Outhouse Nook – The small nook beside the outhouse protects from enemy attacks. (Number 2 in the picture shown)

Conclusion

Disclaimer

While all the methods shown were rigorously tested by me using a well-equipped level 28 Druid, the methods shown are a last resort and should not be a part of a plan initially. For example, it is better to clear the first boss and only run to the safe spot if the group starts to fail.

Many safe spots guides online say worked for them; however, I’d only listed the ones that worked for me, and discarded any that didn’t. So I am confident my methods should work for other people as well, but still shouldn’t be treated as a first resort.

My Thoughts

I have personally played Hardcore WoW quite extensively, and I understand that entering your first dungeon can be very intimidating.

This guide is designed to help ease the nerves of new players when it comes to Deadmines, a low-level dungeon for the Alliance that can easily go awry. While this guide is aimed at newer players, experienced players may also discover a few new strategies that could benefit them in future runs through this dungeon.

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
