Before starting a hardcore character for the first time in Classic WoW, it’s a good idea to install some addons, specifically through CurseForge. They bring many quality of life improvements to the game, whether it be warning you of nearby enemies or speeding up the leveling process.
While there are thousands of different addons available, we’re going to cover ten of the best ones currently available in this list.
Questie

Questie is designed to help with the questing process in WoW Classic. It adds icons to the map at every location where a quest can be collected. Hovering over these icons also provides useful information, such as the level of the quest, and it’s compatible with TomTom, which provides directions to the next objective.
When hovering over an objective, such as an NPC, you can see your current progress, as well as other members of your party. And one of the most valuable features is that you can display other locations and NPCs on the minimap, such as Vendors and Class Trainers.
AtlasLoot

Once you reach level 10, you’ll be closer to being able to participate in dungeons. One add-on you’ll definitely want to use is Atlas Loot. It can show every dungeon that is available to both Horde and Alliance members when installed. You’ll also be able to see items that are obtained from each boss, and the percentage chance for them to drop.
Alongside loot drops, it can show other helpful information related to professions. As an example, for the Tailoring profession, you can see the items that you can craft for different item slots, as well as their level and item requirements.
Better Bags

There are lots of add-ons that altar the bags and banks in WoW Classic, but a personal favorite has to be BetterBags. While addons like Bagnon tend to group the inventory into one bag, BetterBags uses categories instead, like Quest, Recipes, Junk, and Weapons, making it easier to find what you’re looking for.
It supports the inventory, the Bank, the Reagent Bank, and the Warband Bank. The add-on is highly customizable, so you can change the size of the sections, create your own custom categories, instantly vendor all items in a specific category, and even support themes.
Rested XP Guides

When playing Hardcore WoW, you’ll likely die a few times and find yourself constantly recreating new characters. The fastest way to level up, beat the sluggish starting zones, and reach levels where you’re able to partake in dungeons is by using Rested XP Guides.
After downloading this plugin, you’ll find a sleek interface that tells you exactly what to do to level up in the most optimal way. It will track the NPCs you kill, loot you pickup, and even point you in the right direction in a fashion similar to the TomTom addon.
The plugin will guide you to level 20 for free. After that, you’ll need to buy the premium version.
What’s Training

A useful addon that can be seen in your character screen is What’s Training. A new button will appear in the menu that shows what skills will be unlocked in your upcoming levels. These are sorted by available now, requirements not met, coming soon, and not yet available.
So with this addon installed, you’ll know when your character will unlock a useful skill, one that might help you live longer in hardcore. And when hovering over one of the skills, you’ll see a tooltip of what it does, the rank of the spell, and its cost.
Narcissus

A new character UI comes with Narcissus, which can be accessed from a new icon on the minimap. Lots of useful information will be displayed, including a render of your character, all the items you have equipped, as well as their item levels and rarity. Whereas the panel on the right hand side shows more useful statistics, like your health, armor, intellect, playtime, stamina, and a lot more.
This addon is especially useful for taking photos, as it has a built in photo mode where you can equip and transmog different items, apply animations to your character, and even import NPCs or change the background. When playing hardcore, it’s a great way to take constant screenshots of your character to see how they progress, or take group photos with your party members.
LFG Group Bulletin Board

When doing dungeons in Classic Hardcore WoW, it can be a struggle, as it has no built in dungeon finder that more modern versions of the game have. Players need to rely on using text channels, or finding other members to group up with, which can be a chore.
The LFG Group Bulletin Board addon aims to make the process easier. It constantly scans the text channels, finds members who are looking for dungeons, and compiles them into an easy to read interface. They’ll be sorted by the dungeon, and you can see what’s been requested, how long ago, and even filter options.
GatherMate2

To help with leveling professions in WoW, one of the best addons available is GatherMate2. It collects and tracks information and locations for Herbs, Mines, Fishing Pools, Gas Clouds, Archaelogy Finds and Treasures, and will display them all on the world map and minimap.
By default, the addon will track resources that you’ve harvested, and then store their location. However, players can also install the GatherMate2 Data addon, and have all the data automatically imported for each area. That way, you can collect the desired materials as you progress through quests and each area.
Dialogue UI

While it doesn’t really make surviving in hardcore easier, the Dialogue UI will modernize many in-game interfaces and make them easier to use with a keyboard instead of having to click individual buttons.
When speaking to an NPC, it also moves the camera in an immersive and cinematic way, focusing the NPC on the screen. Different themes are available, and the UI is also changed in other areas, such as books. The standard dialogue interface looks outdated, so either way, this makes a nice improvement.
RareScanner

RareScanner will alert players of any rare NPCs, Treasure, and events. When playing hardcore, this addon is primarily helpful as it will alert you of any nearby enemies that might be dangerous. It also displays other useful information, such as the loot that can be obtained from it.
They’ll also show up on the world map, as small icons which can be hovered over. There is an in-game explorer too, allowing you to easily find the NPCs, treasure and events you want. Either way, this addon will save your life a few times at least.
