What are World forged Key Fragments?

Those Worldforged Key Fragments filling up your inventory? They're more valuable than you think. While many players unknowingly accumulate dozens of these fragments from level 60 onwards, few realize they're the gateway to legendary enchants and hidden caches throughout the game world.

Worldforged Key Fragments are a commonly acquired yet frequently overlooked currency that players accumulate throughout their journey to endgame content. These fragments typically drop in quantities of 1-3 pieces from daily quest reward chests and standard leveling chests, though they only begin appearing in level 60+ chest drops.

Description for World Forged Key: Use this to unlock caches with powerful enchantments hidden throughout Azeroth and beyond.
Once five Worldforged key fragments are used, they will form a Worldforged key, accessible in the Key Bags, located next to the regular bag buttons.

The primary mechanic involves collecting five Worldforged Key Fragments to craft a complete Worldforged Key. Many players inadvertently stockpile these fragments without fully understanding their practical applications, making them one of the game’s most underutilized resources.

What are Worldforged Key Fragments used for?

Once you’ve successfully combined five fragments into a Worldforged Key, two main paths become available:

1

Defias Gunslinger Mythic Scroll Enchant

This path is supporting future builds in free-pick mode by picking up a relatively straightforward but well-sought-after legendary Scroll: Defias Gunslinger – a pirate-themed build wielding a gun and a sword.

Adds a series of abilities resembling a pirate; this is considered a Solid legendary scroll to build from.

Legendary Mythic Enchant Acquisition: The key serves as a crucial component for obtaining the Defias Gunslinger legendary mythic enchant. Players seeking an alternative route can bypass this requirement by reaching level 70 with a Defias Gunslinger character made from Character Creation.

The legendary item is located in a chest inside Deadmines, which can be found in Westfall, and is suitable for players around level 18. If you want to solo it, you’ll need to be a much higher level.

a Short run from Sentinel Hill in Westfall

The Chest can be found at the very end of the Deadmines dungeon. You’ll have to defeat the first 3 bosses (Some of them drop Epic Mystic Scrolls, such as Twisted Mind from the controlled civilian elite walking through the first tunnels), but you can skip the final boat by swimming around it. The Chest is hidden in a tent by the Exit of the Dungeon.

2

Open World Loot

Supporting your current character’s build:

Found near Blind Mary in Duskwood, this chest requires a World forged key to open, revealing an Epic Worldforged enchantment: Blood Arrow

World Chest Access: Worldforged Keys unlock specific high-value chests scattered throughout the game world, including:

  • Cache of Frozen Tears (located in Winterspring)
  • Cache of Jungle Medicine (located in Stranglethorn Vale)

Generally, if you are a PvE player who plays in new areas consistently, you will have seen at least one Chest requiring a special Chest Key to open it.

Most Caches contain special items and/or Mystic Scrolls, which can prove beneficial for players on free-pick or can be delivered to players on free-pick (provided they are from the same fraction).

Limitations

It’s worth noting that Worldforged Keys cannot open Felforged Chests, despite the similar naming convention. These felforged Chests are legacy content from a previous game update and remain inaccessible through the current key system, serving only as environmental remnants of discontinued features.

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
