Conquest of Azeroth ‘Restless Family Members’ Quest Guide

Restless Family Members is an early Undead-side quest in Project Ascension, added to Deathknell as part of the expanded starting zone content that isn't found in vanilla WoW Classic. It's picked up from Riscell, the surviving younger son of the Cain family, a Lordaeron noble house that fell during the Scourge invasion and whose relatives now lie scattered inside their own family crypt. The quest tasks new Forsaken players with descending into the tomb, interacting with the remains of four Cain family members, and putting their tormented ghosts to rest. Beyond the standard experience and Small Black Pouch reward, the crypt also hides two free Worldforged items usable from level 3, which is the real draw for anyone farming Deathknell before moving on to Tirisfal Glades. It's a short quest, but the tomb entrance looks blocked, which trips most players up on their first attempt.

Restless Family Members is one of the earliest quests in the Undead starting zone on Project Ascension, and it’s not a Classic WoW original. The quest sends new Forsaken characters into the Cain Family Crypt, just outside Deathknell, to lay to rest a handful of tormented relatives.

The real reason to run it is what’s sitting inside the tomb. Two free Worldforged items, a shield and a two-handed weapon, are up for grabs alongside the standard quest reward, and both are usable from level 3.

The catch is that the crypt entrance appears completely blocked, and the marker seems to point nowhere, which causes many new players to walk in circles. This guide covers how to start the quest, get past the barricade, clear the objective, and grab both Worldforged pieces on the way out.

Quick Quest Overview

Zone: Deathknell (Undead starter) • Quest Giver: Riscell • Turn-in: Riscell • Prerequisite: Monsters With Noble Intentions • Reward: ~540-644 XP + Small Black Pouch • Bonus Loot: 2 free Worldforged items inside the crypt.

Restless Family Members

Restless Family Members is picked up from Riscell, the younger son of the Cain family, one of the noble houses of Lordaeron that fell during the Scourge invasion. He hands out the quest as part of a small chain focused on his family’s tomb.

You need to complete the prerequisite quest Monsters With Noble Intentions before Riscell will offer this one. If Restless Family Members isn’t showing up, the missing prerequisite is almost always the reason.

Once you accept the quest, head straight for the Cain Family Crypt. It’s a short walk from the Deathknell quest hub, and there’s no combat on the way to the entrance.

Walkthrough – How to do Restless Family Members Quest

The quest is short, but its layout confuses many first-time players. Follow these steps in order to clear it without backtracking.

The barricade looks like a hard block. It isn’t. The entrance is passable if you go around it or simply jump through, and this is by far the most common place new Forsaken players get stuck on this quest.

The Tomb Isn't Actually Blocked

If the entrance looks sealed, jump straight over the barricade or skirt around the side. There is no key, no lever, and no follow-up quest that opens it. Just walk through.

Those items are called ‘Worldforged’, meaning found in the world, usually items far exceeding what is currently available through quests and added throughout Conquest of Azeroth at all levels

Loot the Casket on the Right

As soon as you're inside, look right. There's a casket on the ground next to the wall.

Interacting with it awards Deadman’s Cover, a Worldforged shield with 116 armor, 4 block, and +1 Stamina at only level 3 required. It’s a free upgrade for anyone using a shield in the early game, and even if your build can’t equip it, the vendor gold isn’t nothing.

Personally I couldn’t equip Deadman’s Cover on my Venomancer build, so I sold it and moved on. If you’re rolling anything with a shield slot though, this is a genuine early upgrade and worth going out of your way for.

3

Clear the Four Skeleton Rooms

Head down the steps behind the barricade. There are interactable skeletons in every room, one per room, four total.

Interact with 4 skeletons in 4 different rooms, which summons 4 ghosts to defeat and progress the Quest

Interact with each skeleton to summon its restless ghost, then defeat the ghost. The ghosts are low-level and pose almost no threat as long as you pull them one at a time. You can attack other players’ spawned ghosts, which sometimes advances your quest.

You need to complete this four times, essentially once per room, before the quest updates. Missing a room is easy in the lower levels because the layout doubles back, so double-check your quest tracker before leaving.

4

Grab the Oathblade on the Bottom Floor

On the lowest floor of the crypt there's a second Worldforged item waiting to be looted.

Oathblade is a two-handed weapon that deals 4.7 damage per second, with +2 Spirit and a flat +2 Attack Power bonus. That’s a strong early weapon for anyone leaning into two-handers, casters who want the Spirit for regen, or hybrids scaling Attack Power.

5

Return to Riscell

Once all four ghosts are down and both items are looted, head back up and out of the tomb.

Turn the quest in to Riscell at the starting camp to claim your experience and the Small Black Pouch. Both of the Worldforged items you grabbed inside are yours to keep regardless of whether you complete the objective, but there’s no reason to leave them behind.

Free Worldforged Loot Inside the Crypt

The two Worldforged items inside the Cain Family Crypt are the main reason this quest is worth prioritizing over other Deathknell quests. Both are free, both are level 3, and both slot into common early builds.

Deadman's Cover (Shield)

Armor: 116
Block: 4
Bonus: +1 Stamina
Required Level: 3

Sits on the floor in a casket right at the entrance. Grab it before heading downstairs.

Oathblade (Two-Handed Weapon)

Damage: 4.7 DPS
Bonus: +2 Spirit
Bonus: +2 Attack Power
Required Level: 3

Found on the bottom floor of the crypt after clearing the four ghost rooms.

If you’re planning to hold onto either piece long term, both are eligible for the Worldforged upgrade system down the line.

Rewards and What Unlocks Next

Turning in Restless Family Members grants roughly 540-644 experience (the exact figure varies with rested state and any class-based bonuses) plus a Small Black Pouch. The pouch is a small inventory bag, which matters a lot at level 3 when starter bag space runs out quickly.

The bigger reason to run this quest is that it opens up the next chunk of Deathknell content. Completing Restless Family Members unlocks four follow-up quests from Riscell and the surrounding NPCs.

Follow-Up Quests

Unlocks After Turn-In

None of the follow-ups gate the next zone entirely, but Deathknell rewards a full clear before moving on. If you’re planning to farm the starting area for XP and gear before heading to Tirisfal Glades, our Ascension gear guide covers how to line up early upgrades with the Worldforged pieces you’re collecting.
