Mystic Altars are required in the Classless World of Warcraft to create and tailor builds to achieve optimal gameplay, but they’re not common and easy to find sometimes, and so this Mystic Altars Locations Guide should help players find all 7 Mystic Altars. (Or whichever one is closest to them)

Note: Some Mystic Altars appear with a symbol on the world map, but inconsistently – not all locations are marked, so you’ll need to navigate to the specific areas described below.

Outland Altars

There are three Mystic Altars found in the endgame region: Outlands. They are located in Netherstorm, Nagrand, and Terokkar Forest.

Ring of Observance Altar

Terokkar Forest

Very close to Shattrath City – south within the Ring of Observance (destroyed structure terrain in the south of Terokkar Forest).

Found on the left side of the ruins in a small crevice, positioned slightly higher than the left crypt entrance. Look for it facing toward the spirit tower area. Flying mount is recommended, as it’s a little more challenging to reach on foot.

Kirin’Var Village Altar

Netherstorm

Located at the top of a building in Kirin’Var Village. You’ll need to walk up long stairs similar to the Azshara mage tower location. Once inside the building, climb the staircase, and it is located at the very top.

The named mob at the bottom isn’t challenging to defeat, and drops a legendary enchant called the Elemental Destruction – this is a reasonably powerful and commonly used legendary for caster builds.

Hidden Cave Altar

Nagrand

The Nagrand Mystic Altar is found within a Cave System inside the Oshu’Gun Structure. You can enter through the entrance.

Once inside, you’ll need to clear quite a few mobs through the cave system. It can be found at the very end.

Classic World Altars

Kalimdor

Azshara Tower Altar

Start from either flight point in the zone and follow the path down to find an NPC sitting around a campfire. Speak with this NPC, who will send you up. Run up the stairs to the top of the tower, where the altar awaits. The process is straightforward once you find the campfire NPC.

Alternatively, use the Experimental Teleporter to teleport to Azshara for 8 gold. This will send you into the sky of Azshara, able to parachute right to the tower.

Silithus Altar

The easiest altar to locate – positioned right out in the open with clear visibility. Very easy to access, especially if you’re already in Silithus. This is a level 55-60 zone, though the altar itself is easily accessible.

Eastern Kingdoms

Karazhan Altar – Deadwind Pass

Enter through the Master Cellar beneath Karazhan. From the main entrance, turn left and descend into the cellar underground to find the altar. This is in Deadwind Pass, a level 55-60 zone.

Dalaran Crater Altar – Hillsbrad Foothills
Located on top of a small building within the crater. You’ll need to do a bit of a jumping puzzle to reach the platform, though it’s not particularly difficult to get to once you spot the building.

Alternative Mystic Altars

Manastorm Mystic Altar

The Mechanical Mystic Altar can be purchased from the vendor Millhouse Manastorm for a few thousand Bedlam Bullion. Players typically obtain Bedlam Bullion through runs of Manastorm, which is the most common way to acquire a Mystic Altar. This item is purely cosmetic and is available to all your characters. Although it lasts only 5 minutes, it has a 30-minute cooldown period, which should provide sufficient time to make any necessary changes.

Portable Mystic Enchanting Altar

Portable Mystic Enchanting Altar: Available from the shop with a 13-minute cooldown, lasting 5 minutes when deployed. Can often be found in capital cities like Stormwind, Orgrimmar, or Shattrath when other players deploy them.

Ascension is a free-to-play game that generates income through microtransactions, which can often come at the cost of players’ convenience. For example, instead of simply paying $15 for specific items, players must travel to Mystic Altars located in the game world or wait for another player to bring the item and spawn one in major cities like Stormwind or Orgrimmar. We aren’t affiliated with this; it’s just notable information that helps readers consider their options.

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
