Welcome to the definitive ranking of Ranged Damage Archetypes in Project Ascension’s classless World of Warcraft experience! Whether you’re a veteran WoW player exploring the innovative Archetype system or a complete newcomer looking for the perfect starting build, this comprehensive tier list will help you make an informed decision.
All Ranged DPS Classes Ranked
All classes, including Paratrooper, Marksman, Bestial Ranger, Locust Ranger, and Dark Ranger, will be listed below from Worst to Best, along with the reasoning for their positioning in the list.
5Marksman
Burst Damage Hunter – Known for their ability ‘Compound Power’.

The most skilled archers on Azeroth are known as Marksmen: precise, accurate, and deadly snipers. Whether wielding a bow or a gun, these hunters possess the grace and techniques of trained rogues, executing complex trick shots and striking multiple targets at once.Marksman Hunters are known for their Burst ability – Compound Power, which gives an excellent burst of damage. But this is the weakest class on the list due to its limited sustainability in prolonged battles. While it can deal significant damage initially, it struggles once its mana runs out, offering no practical way to regain mana during fights. As a result, your character risks underperforming in damage output and is likely to face defeat in the long run.
In PvE situations, you could sit and drink Mana Water; however, this is considered a negative factor as you’ll face downtime that other classes of similar caliber don’t have to.
4Paratrooper
The Evasive Hunter – In the air, the paratrooper goes.

Attacking from above your target offers a significant advantage, and no one excels at this more than a Paratrooper. As a Paratrooper, you'll launch yourself high into the air, gaining bonus damage when firing on enemies below you. A combat parachute slows your descent, not only improving your accuracy but also increasing the time you spend out of harm's way.The Paratrooper is an enjoyable class to play, being marked as fairly evasive and annoying to counter at times in PvP. Paratroopers are known for their ability to jump into the air and parachute down, still utilizing their damaging skills.
Unfortunately, this class also lacks in Damage per Second, as other Archetypes outperform when it comes to pure damage. However, I’d still recommend playing this class for PvP BGs mainly for entertainment purposes.
3Bestial Ranger
The Hunter, where their Pet does all the damage

Legends once spoke of Hunters who soul-bonded with their animal companions, becoming a single unit of bestial wrath. Able to channel their beast's inner rage, these Bestial Rangers lurk on the fringes of society, serving as savage mercenaries or stoic guides. As a Bestial Ranger, you share your companion's thirst for blood and can enrage alongside them to tear foes to shreds.Bestial Rangers are hunters with many pet-oriented damaging abilities, which is usually good, as you can pesker your opponents even behind cover while staying afar in safety. In Ascension PvP Battlegrounds, pets typically go behind enemy lines, where they’ll be quickly killed.
This class can be suitable for sustained damage, doesn’t have as much burst, and overall is a good class to play, especially in duels/more minor PvP battles.
2Dark Ranger
Hit and Run playstyle, dealing shadow damage over time.

Embrace the Shadow and become a Dark Ranger, wielding the power of the Banshee Queen as your own. As a Dark Ranger, you infuse your shots with Shadow damage, peppering foes in a flurry of sinister arrows. As you grow in strength, you'll gain the ability to weave Shadow Bolts into your arrows, dealing massive damage with each shot.Dark Rangers deal shadow damage, usually over time, which generally means their playstyles are to ensure that all enemies continuously have DoTs on them, and that Dark Rangers have a ramp time to deal damage. This allows for Dark Rangers to apply DoT and run, hence the ‘hit and run’ title.
This is an all-rounder class that outperforms many others as a solid pick; you’ll likely see those around the Ascension Area 52 Server, as they have a relatively higher pick rate. It just doesn’t deal as high damage as Locust Rangers.
1Locust Ranger
Locust Rangers are toxic.

Locust Rangers are hunters who have learned to weave natural magics into their shots and stings. Able to poison enemies from a distance, they can weave Druidic magic into their arrows and fire off instant spells. From infusing arrows with wrath to sending out swarms of locusts onto foes, Locust Rangers specialize in quick, consistent damage. Their strongest arrows cause a buildup of poison on targets which can burst for bonus Nature damage.Locust Rangers are very similar to Dark Rangers, where their abilities also deal damage over time. Except that instead of shadow damage, it is nature damage. Nature damage is also more prone to crits, making Locust Rangers rank higher in this list as they deal more damage, with less of a ramp to do so.
Locust Hunters are very beginner-friendly run-and-gun, as players can cast Steady Shot and Locust Shot and maintain relatively high damage, sometimes dubbing them ‘brainless’ as they can do this two-button rotation while staying top dps.
What are Archetypes?
Archetypes are Project Ascension’s answer to the overwhelming freedom of classless gameplay. Instead of spending hours theory-crafting the perfect combination of abilities, talents, and mystic enchantments, Archetypes provide ready-to-play, community-tested builds that automatically unlock your skills as you level. Think of them as expertly designed class templates that let you jump straight into the action while still experiencing the unique cross-class combinations that make Ascension special.

Archetypes are categorized to help players select their preferred playstyle. This tier list focuses on the Ranged DPS section, primarily featuring Hunter Class-oriented archetypes in WoW Ascension. Players can choose from five archetypes: Paratrooper, Marksman, Bestial Ranger, Dark Ranger, and Locust Ranger.

Conclusion
The Ascension community, through extensive forum discussions and YouTube analysis, has reached a strong consensus on the relative power rankings of Ranged DPS archetypes as presented above. However, it’s crucial to understand that these performance differences are marginal in practical gameplay; no archetype will fundamentally compromise your success. The most critical factor in reaching max level and excelling in endgame content is finding an archetype whose playstyle resonates with you. Personal engagement and mechanical comfort will consistently outperform minor statistical advantages. Select the archetype that best aligns with your preferred gameplay loop, as sustained enjoyment directly translates to improved performance and completion rates.
Personally, I find that dealing higher damage provides a dopamine hit, as it indicates that I am performing well in the activities I engage in. This tier list was created primarily based on that notion.
