Jack is the workshop foreman, and he is the single hardest gate in Graveyard Keeper 2. Three separate technologies are locked behind his reputation, and none of them can be bought with spheres at any price.
He is also the reason people give up on the Factory without realising what stopped them. The node in front of it costs nothing and asks only for 50 reputation with him, and nothing on it explains that the answer is a person rather than a number.

What his reputation buys
Three nodes, and they are spread far enough apart that you meet him as a gate three separate times. Each one is a zero-sphere node whose only requirement is the number, so no quantity of technology points substitutes.
| 40 | Circular Saw | The plank multiplier, and the zombie lumberjack line behind it |
| 50 | Conveyors | Every machine in the Factory, and the whole town supply chain |
| 70 | Steel Smithing | The steel tier, and the anvil work past iron |

A reputation lock is a node with no sphere price at all. It sits in the tree looking like any other prerequisite, it cannot be bought, and the tree never names the person it wants.
If a branch has stopped dead and you have the points for it, check whether a name is standing in front of it.
How to raise it: ten at a time
Reputation with a named character moves in flat steps of ten and nothing else touches it. There is no gift system, no daily, and no way to trade your way up. You either finish a quest that pays him or your number stays where it is.
Jack has around twenty of those payments across the story, so roughly a hundred reputation is available against the seventy he asks for at most. The slack is real but the early ones are not optional, because the Circular Saw at forty is four payments on its own.
| Jack in a Boat | Bring him the wood to build a boat | Twin’s Land |
| Jack in a Boat, part two | Ask whether he is ready to set sail | Twin’s Land |
| Docked and Found | Find him again once the port opens | The liberated Port Area |
| Workshop Hours | Fulfil town orders, then talk to him | The Town Warehouse |
| Jack’s Back in Business | Clear the zombies around his workshop | The Town Warehouse |
| Repairing the workshop | Bring the materials to restore it | His Town Workshop |
| The steel errand | Fetch high quality steel from the Royal Foundry | His Town Workshop |
| Factory Tour | Get your Factory working, then invite him | His Town Workshop |
| The Prosthetic Hand | Bring him the Prosthetic Hand | The Port, by the pier |
| The Elegant Hand | Bring him an Elegant Hand | The Port, near the Main Pier |
Two of those are worth planning around. The supplies order step wants town orders filled before he will talk, which is a production problem rather than an errand, and the Factory tour asks you to have a working Factory before he will come and look at it.

He sells nothing at all
Jack is registered as a vendor with three tiers like every other trader, and every one of those tiers is empty. Herm carries fifty five items and the town alchemist a hundred and three; Jack carries none.
So there is no shop to level up and no stock to wait for. His tiers exist for the conversation, and everything you want from him arrives through reputation instead.
The Factory is his idea
The reason he gates the Factory is that the whole thing is his project. His problem is workers, yours is that you have a yard full of workers who do not need paying, and the questline is the two of you working that out.
There’s nobody anymore who wants to work in a good old manufactory.
This might surprise you, but… I have plenty of workers willing to work at my factory.
Your factory? With conveyor belts and automated workbenches?
Yeah… a real underground facility…
Jack and the Keeper, on the calculations
That conversation is also where the steel problem starts, which is what his third lock is about. The finest steel comes from the Royal Foundry on the north side of town, reachable only through a water tunnel, and somebody has seen smoke coming out of it recently.
Questions about Jack in Graveyard Keeper 2
How do you gain reputation with Jack?
By finishing quests that pay him, in flat steps of ten. There is no gift system and no way to trade for it, so the only lever is the story. He has about twenty payments available across the game.
What does Jack reputation unlock?
Three technologies, at 40, 50 and 70. The Circular Saw, then Conveyors which opens every machine in the Factory, then Steel Smithing.
Why can I not research Conveyors?
Because the node in front of it is a reputation lock needing 50 with Jack. It has no sphere price, so technology points will never open it and the tree does not say whose reputation it wants.
What does Jack sell?
Nothing. He is registered as a vendor with three tiers and all three are empty, so there is no shop to upgrade and no stock to wait for.
Where is Jack in Graveyard Keeper 2?
He moves. Early on he is in Twin’s Land building a boat, then the liberated Port Area, then the Town Warehouse, and once his workshop is cleared and repaired he is usually at the Town Workshop.
What does the Circular Saw do?
It turns one Log into four Wooden Plank in four seconds at Building mastery four, or six with the Carpenter perk. That is why 40 reputation with Jack is worth hurrying for: before it you are splitting logs one at a time.
How much Jack reputation is available in total?
Around a hundred, against the seventy his highest lock asks for. There is slack, but the Circular Saw at forty is already four payments, so the early quests are not optional if you want it on time.
