Chasing Fairy Lights

Updated 5 min read

Chasing Fairy Lights asks you to summon a fairy at your kitchen table from three items you have probably never made, and it is the quest that opens the swamp and most of the game after it. Two of the three are easy. The third, a Comet's Tail, is bought from the Astrologer in Town, which means the quest is gated by a place rather than by anything in your yard, and nothing tells you that. It is also the conversation people click straight through, and the optional Zombie branch is the only place the game ever says where Blue Crystals grow, which is the hard ceiling on every zombie collar you will make.

Chasing Fairy Lights asks you to summon a fairy at your kitchen table, and the recipe is three items you have probably never made. It is the quest that opens the swamp, and most of the game after it.

Two of the three are easy. The third, a Comet’s Tail, is bought in Town, which means the quest is gated by a place rather than by anything in your yard.

It is also the conversation people click through, and one of the branches answers a question that blocks the entire zombie economy later.

Three items at the Kitchen Table

The craft is Summon Fairy, it runs at your Kitchen Table in three seconds, and it wants one Tooth, one Dream Dust and one Comet’s Tail. It needs Anatomy mastery three.

The Tooth is the cheapest of the three. Pull a skull out of a body at the Autopsy Table and turn it into a tooth at the Formulation Bench, which is two crafts at mastery one.

The Comet’s Tail is the real gate, and it is two quests upstream

Nothing in your own workshop makes a Comet’s Tail. It is sold by the Astrologer, who lives in the tower at the port, so you need Town open before the summon is possible at all.

Opening Town runs through Herbert. If the quest looks stuck with two of three ingredients in your bag, that is why, and no amount of crafting at home will move it.

Do not click through her

Summoning her starts a long conversation, and it opens with the two of them arguing about whether she is real while Larry watches. The tone is set immediately.

Ha! I knew it… All that fairy malarkey was a lie! / Achoo! / Bless you. / What took you so long? Doing side quests?

The Fairy, arriving

Partway through she offers three optional topics: Doubt, Zombie, and Saving the World. None of them is required and all three are worth reading, but one of them is load bearing.

The Zombie branch tells you where Blue Crystals come from

Every Zombie Collar in the game needs a Blue Crystal, which makes the crystal supply the hard ceiling on how many zombie workers you can ever have. The game explains where they grow exactly once, in this optional branch.

She says they grow at her place, the Nature Goddess’s temple at the lake, which is now the swamp. Skip the branch and you will find that out much later and by accident.

You just need those shiny crystals, to prevent the Ancient God’s magic from corrupting the strong ones. / Where can I find those? / That’s easy… They grow at my place, the Nature Goddess’s temple at the lake. Although… now it’s a swamp.

The Fairy, on the Zombie branch

The map is the last line, not a reward screen

The Fairy’s Swamp Map is handed over when the conversation ends, on the line where she dismisses you. There is no separate objective and no pickup.

No more questions! You’ve got plenty to do. / I’ll be waiting for you… in the swamp! / Gotta admit she’s got style.

The Fairy and Larry, signing off

So if you backed out of the dialogue early you will not have it, and the fix is reopening the conversation rather than searching the house. The map is what the swamp trip runs on.

Several quests start in the same moment, which is the other reason the map slips past people. The handover is one line in a stack of toasts.

What the summon opens up

Finishing Chasing Fairy Lights fires off more than one thread. Heart of the Swamp begins immediately, with directions that are as vague as they sound: enter the Forest, then head south.

The swamp trip ends at the Goddess, and the reason to go is the same Blue Crystal the Fairy mentioned. The first thing you can say to the Goddess when you arrive is that the Fairy sent you for them.

It also unblocks a complaint quest if you have already dealt with the donkey and the nun, so the summon is a hinge rather than a side errand.

Graveyard Keeper 2 Summon Fairy FAQ

How do you summon the Fairy in Graveyard Keeper 2?

At the Kitchen Table, with one Tooth, one Dream Dust and one Comet’s Tail. The craft takes three seconds and needs Anatomy mastery 3.

Where do you get a Comet’s Tail?

From the Astrologer, who lives in the tower at the port in Town. Nothing crafts one, so the quest is gated behind opening Town through Herbert.

Where do you get the Tooth for the Fairy?

Take a skull from a body at the Autopsy Table, then turn it into a Tooth at the Formulation Bench. Both crafts are mastery 1 and the research is 5 red and 5 blue.

How do you get the Fairy’s Swamp Map?

She gives it to you on the last line of the conversation after the summon, when she says she will be waiting in the swamp. There is no separate objective, so if you left the dialogue early, reopen it.

What starts Chasing Fairy Lights?

Dust in the Kitchen, which asks you to figure out how to summon the Fairy and nothing more.

Are the dialogue options worth taking?

Yes. The Zombie branch is the only place the game tells you Blue Crystals grow at the Nature Goddess’s temple in the swamp, and every Zombie Collar needs one.

What does summoning the Fairy unlock?

Heart of the Swamp, which sends you into the Forest and then south, and it is the route to the Goddess and the Blue Crystals.

Can you summon the Fairy before opening Town?

No. The Comet’s Tail only comes from the Astrologer in Town, so the summon waits on that whatever else you have ready.
