Blue Points and Science

Updated 5 min read

Blue points come from studying, studying runs on science, and science is made of paper. That is a three step chain and the game explains none of it, which is why blue is the color people run dry on first. The good news is that the arithmetic works out generously once you stop wasting the paper: the whole technology tree wants 4,132 blue and the studies hold 5,195, so nobody needs to farm it. What they need is to stop feeding loose sheets to the Study Table, because five of them are worth ninety science as a kit and five as paper. Here is the loop and the numbers behind it.

Blue points come from studying, and studying runs on Science, and science is made of paper. That is a three step chain and the game explains none of it, which is why blue is the color people run dry on first.

The good news is the arithmetic works out generously once you stop wasting the paper.

Studying pays the points, science pays for the studying

The Study Table takes one item at a time and returns technology points for it, once per item in the game. What it burns to do that is science, held in the table itself rather than in your pockets.

Three hundred and ninety three things can be studied, but nineteen alchemy powders begin a new save already done, so only 374 of them ever pay. Thirty eight want Faith on top, between one and five each. The table measures Book writing, so that is the track to raise if the studies start refusing you.

Never put plain paper on the table

Science comes from decomposing things and there are exactly three that work: a Clean Paper gives one, a Science Kit I gives thirty and a Science Kit II gives sixty. Nothing else in the game produces any.

A sheet of paper is worth eighteen times more as a kit

A Science Kit I is one Alchemy Flasks I, five Clean Paper and one Ink at the Writing Desk, and the craft returns three kits rather than one. That is ninety science from five sheets.

Decompose those same five sheets directly and you get five. Anyone who tops the table up with loose paper is throwing away nine tenths of it.

The paper itself is cheap. One Leather Scroll makes six Clean Paper at the writing desk, and the Paper Maker perk takes that to ten, so the bottleneck is the glass and the ink rather than the sheets.

Science Kit II doubles it again: one Alchemy Flask II, one Blank Softcover Notebook and two Ink returns three kits worth sixty each, which is a hundred and eighty science from a single craft.

The studies hold more blue than the tree costs

Every node in the technology tree together wants 4,132. The studies hold 5,195 between them, so the whole blue half of the tree is covered by studying with a comfortable margin left over.

That changes what the goal is. You are not farming blue, you are making sure every item gets studied before it gets cooked, sold or spent, because each one pays exactly once and then never again.

Study every tier, not just the best one

Each grade of an item is its own study and each pays separately. A first grade surgical kit is 20, the second 40 and the third 60, so putting all three through the table pays a hundred and twenty rather than sixty.

That holds across the game. Books, talismans, newspapers and every tool ladder pay more at each rung and count as separate entries, so upgrading past a grade without studying it first quietly costs you the points it was worth.

The Necronomicon is the single biggest study in the game

It pays 300 on its own, which is four times the next best and about seven percent of everything the tree will ever ask for in blue. Whatever else you do with it, put it on the table first.

After that the ceiling drops fast. A third grade newspaper is 75, a Steel Zombie Collar is 70, and the best kits, books and talismans are 60 each.

Where else blue turns up

Two hundred and forty five recipes pay blue when crafted, and the best of them is the Krotowuha Scroll at 20 alongside twenty of each other color, for one Ink, one Clean Paper and one Faith.

The graveyard is the other reliable source. A marble gravestone top or base pays 15 each and the stone versions pay seven, so a graveyard you were upgrading anyway hands over blue as a side effect.

Everything else is small. Prayers pay a few, the conveyor repairs pay eight, and none of it competes with either studying or the scroll.

Graveyard Keeper 2 blue points FAQ

How do you get blue points in Graveyard Keeper 2?

Mostly by studying items at the Study Table, which holds 5,195 blue across the 374 studies that pay. Crafting pays some too, and marble gravestones pay 15 each. Each study pays once and never again.

What is science used for?

It is the fuel the Study Table burns. Science sits inside the table rather than in your inventory, and without it the table cannot run a study however many items you are holding.

How do you get science?

By decomposing one of three things on the table: Clean Paper for 1, Science Kit I for 30, or Science Kit II for 60. Nothing else produces it.

Is it worth making Science Kits?

Enormously. A Science Kit I takes five Clean Paper and returns three kits worth 30 each, so five sheets become 90 science instead of the 5 they would give decomposed directly. Kit II turns one craft into 180.

Do you need to farm blue points?

No. The tree costs 4,132 blue and the studies hold 5,195, so the margin is twenty six percent. The risk is wasting studies by cooking or selling an item before it has been through the table, not running short.

What is the best repeatable blue craft?

The Krotowuha Scroll, which pays 20 blue alongside 20 red and 20 green for one Ink, one Clean Paper and one Faith. It needs Book writing nine.
