Thirteen recipes want
Melted Fat, and the game gives you two ways to get it. One is a shop that has to be built first. The other is a building behind a reputation gate, and most players meet the shortage long before they meet the gate.
Nothing else produces it. No node drops it, no body carries it, no quest hands it over, and no other bench will make it however far up the tech tree you climb.
The route runs through Albert, the plague doctor, which is the part nobody guesses from looking at a jar of fat.

Fat itself comes off bodies on the autopsy table, so the supply is the graveyard rather than the garden. Seed oil comes off a Millstone, four of any seed for two oil, which is the route if corpses are scarce and crops are not.
Every recipe that wants Melted Fat wants exactly one, so a single craft covers four of them. The Cube distillations perk adds three more on top of the Fat recipe and two on the oil one, which turns one body into seven.

What sits above both is a reputation lock reading ten with Albert, the plague doctor. That is the real price of every jar of fat you will ever own, and it is paid in favours rather than spheres.

The Apothecary stocks twenty Melted Fat at every tier of the shop, and that is the whole of the alternative. It is a town building you unlock and raise yourself, so the route opens later than the recipe does. Check whether the shop is standing before you count on it.

Graveyard Keeper 2 Melted Fat FAQ
How do you get Melted Fat in Graveyard Keeper 2?
At the Distillation Cube, which is the only thing in the game that makes it. One Fat, two Clay Plate and twenty Fuel return four in six seconds, or three Seed oil in place of the Fat returns three. The Apothecary shop also stocks twenty once the town has one.
Why can I not build the Distillation Cube?
Because of Albert rather than the tech tree. Alchemy, Distillation costs only five red and five green, but the branch sits behind a lock reading ten reputation with Albert, the plague doctor. Raise that first and the rest is cheap.
Where does Fat come from?
Off bodies, on the autopsy table. It is a graveyard product rather than a farm one, which is why the alternative recipe exists: three Seed oil, pressed from four of any seed at a Millstone, stands in for the Fat.
What needs Melted Fat?
Thirteen recipes, and every one of them wants exactly one. Polished Bronze, Polished Stone and Polished Marble; Oiled Plank and Oiled Beam; Ink; both incenses and both corpse treatments at the Formulation Bench; Lacquer and Paint; and a door in the resurrection basement.
Is it worth studying?
It reads three red in runes, which is high for something that costs a body and a few bricks. If you are short of red and have a spare jar, the study table pays better than most things at that price.
