Bronze Detail

Updated 6 min read

Fifty things in the game want one and a single recipe supplies all of them, which is how a mid game quietly stalls on a component nobody thinks to farm. One Bronze Ingot becomes six Details on the first anvil you own, in five seconds, and an Engineer working the bench pushes that to nine. The catch is the technology: the node is called Bronze Works, costs thirty red spheres, and shares its name with a five sphere node near the start of the tree. Details are also what the locked hatch and the blockage under your house are paid in, so the chain to the Study Table runs through this one item.

Fifty things in Graveyard Keeper 2 need a Bronze Detail, and exactly one recipe makes them. One anvil, one ingredient, and a queue of buildings, tools and quests that all stop without it, which is why the mid game tends to stall on a component nobody deliberately farms.

Twenty six of those are buildings, twenty three are crafts, and the last is the study itself. The buildings include Study Table, Laboratory I, the Distillation Cube, Crematorium I, Smithy I and Kitchen I, the rooms that turn the yard into a working business, and the list runs on down to the Tool Rack and the gardener stands.

Forty five red spheres before you make your first one

The detail recipe is three nodes deep in the Metallurgy branch and every one of them is paid in red. Bronze Works opens the branch at 5, Bronze Melting follows at 10, and the node that grants the recipe wants 30 on top of both.

That is 45 spent before a single detail exists, and it is the reason the item feels like it arrives late. Nothing on the way is optional, because each node is the literal prerequisite of the next rather than a parallel branch you can skip.

Bronze Craft is the expensive node, not Bronze Works

The branch opens at 5 with Bronze Works, which hands you the anvil and the first nails. Details come from Bronze Craft at 30, three nodes deep, and the two names are close enough to cost you a click if you buy on the label.

The anvil costs almost nothing

For all that tree, the bench itself is free in practice. A Wooden Anvil is one Short Log and one Stone, and it arrives with the first node, so you will have owned one for hours by the time the recipe unlocks.

One Bronze Ingot goes on and five seconds later you have six details, at three energy a tick. The craft also pays 2 each time, so a run of ten quietly returns 20 of what the tree cost you.

The recipe runs identically on the Iron Anvil and the Steel Anvil, same six, same five seconds, so there is no reason to hold off for a better bench. Engineer is the only thing that moves the number, adding three a rank and taking one ingot to nine. The game reads that perk from whoever is working the anvil rather than from you, so once a Zombie is running it, the bonus follows the worker.

Jack in a Boat wants five of them

The Shop Foreman is stranded in Twins’ Land and wants a boat built, and his opening ask is five Wooden Plank. Details come at the stage after, and this is the only quest in the game that asks for them outright, arriving well before most players have the 45 to make any.

Handing the wood over does not finish it. Jack asks next for a set of bronze tools, though what the quest takes is five Bronze Detail straight out of your bag. The twins open at the same time, not after, so you can do either first.

I just need a set bronze tools. You can’t really get them in the village. / Is that all you need? Just so I don’t run back and forth. / Don’t worry, that’s the last thing I need. / … Oh wait… I also need those two boys in matching outfits there to row.

Jack, twice, in the space of one conversation

Persuading the brothers costs ten Village reputation rather than materials, and it runs alongside the tools rather than after them. The reward has a reputation for being conditional, and one of the twins says so while everyone else is celebrating.

Hooray, we’re about to have a boat again! / Yeah, I wouldn’t be so thrilled. The Shop Foreman’s gifts are never free…

The twins, on Jack

Four steps in all: the wood, then the details and the brothers in either order, then asking Jack whether he is ready, then watching him go. Only the middle two cost you anything from the anvil.

The twins were right. Jack’s letter home blames the materials you supplied for the boat’s poor seaworthiness, and he stays at the port rather than risk the trip back.

The Plague Doctor chain is paid in details too

Two of the gates on the way to the Study Table are bought rather than earned. The locked hatch in your house asks for one detail and two Boards, and the blockage underneath it asks for three details and three Wooden Planks.

Four details across the whole chain is less than one ingot’s worth, so the gate is trivial once you are smelting and completely impassable before it. That single fact is the most common reason players report being stuck on the way to the technology economy.

Where the rest go

The craft side is every bronze tool and weapon in the game. A Bronze Gear, the axe, pickaxe, hammer and shovel at two each, the sword at three, the armor at two, plus the chisel, the talisman and the butcher’s kit.

The building side is longer and less predictable. Alongside the workshop upgrades it covers church fittings, the columbarium, the beehive, gardener stands and Firewood shed II, so details turn up in branches that otherwise have nothing to do with metal.

Iron Detail is the same item one tier up

Iron Detail runs the identical recipe on one Iron Ingot, six per craft, six seconds instead of five, and fifty eight things of its own want it. It also pays 3 a craft against the bronze version’s 2. The difference is the bench: it will not run on the Wooden Anvil, so it waits for an Iron Anvil, which is four Piece of stone and two Iron Ingots.

Nothing converts between the two, and no recipe treats them as interchangeable. The one craft that wants both at once is Advanced Detail. A building asking for iron details will not take bronze ones no matter how many you have, which is worth checking before you smelt a stack of the wrong metal.
