How to Get From Zephras Isle to Stormwind or Orgrimmar in WoW Forever

Finishing Zephras Isle in World of Warcraft: Forever doesn't always leave you with a clear idea of where to go next. The Skyborne starting zone is its own island, cut off from the rest of Azeroth, and nothing on the map shows you a road to Stormwind or Orgrimmar. The quest that's meant to point you off the island is easy to miss, especially if you finished the zone in a slightly different order to the one intended, skipped a breadcrumb along the way, or simply out-levelled the last few quests and wandered off to explore. The good news is that the trip is short once you know it: a boat from Valanaar to Dalaran, then a portal straight into your capital city. Below is the full route for both Alliance and Horde Skyborne, the quest chain waiting for you on the other side, and where to level once you arrive.

To get from Zephras Isle to Stormwind in WoW Forever, take the boat from the dock at Valanaar on the south side of the island to Dalaran, then use the Stormwind portal in the portal room opposite where the boat drops you off, which puts you in the Mage Tower in Stormwind’s Mage Quarter. It’s a two-step trip, and the Horde version is almost identical: the same boat to Dalaran, then the Orgrimmar portal in the same room.

Dalaran is a neutral city, so whichever side you picked, it’s your way off Zephras Isle. Alliance players head for Stormwind and Horde players for Orgrimmar, and the rest of the trip is the same.

Step 1: The boat from Valanaar to Dalaran

Valanaar is the city on the south side of Zephras Isle, where you’ll have already handed in many of the island’s quests. Head to the dock on the south side of the island by Valanaar and board the boat when it’s in. It carries you straight to Dalaran, and it runs the other way too if you ever need to go back.

Dalaran Boat – South of Zephras Isles is a boat that takes players to Dalaran (Neutral City), where Horde and Alliance will take their own portals from

Step 2: The Dalaran portal to Stormwind or Orgrimmar

The boat drops you at Dalaran’s dock, and the portal room is right across the way. Take the portal to Stormwind, which sends you to the Mage Tower in Stormwind’s Mage Quarter, where you can explore the city, set your hearthstone, and start your class training. If you’re Horde, the Orgrimmar portal is in the same room and works the same way.

Portal Room – Opposite where the boat drops you off, both Stormwind and Orgrimmar portals can be located here along with a quest to talk to the leaders of each faction

Before you step through, pick up the quest nearby for your faction. It starts a short chain on the other side: first you meet your faction’s leader, then you’re sent to explore the city and the surrounding area, and the last quest points you to a zone for your level. On the Alliance side, the chain also takes you through the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge to speak with another NPC before sending you on to Westfall.

Portal to Major City – Ensure you pick up the nearby Quest for your faction
Set your hearthstone as soon as you arrive

Your hearthstone is still bound to the last inn you used, which is most likely on Zephras Isle. Bind it at an innkeeper in Stormwind or Orgrimmar, or in Goldshire if you’re an Alliance player heading straight out to quest, so you aren’t sent back to the island the first time you use it.

Where to level once you’re in the major city (Orgrimmar or Stormwind)

Stormwind gives you the Alliance’s bank, auction house, and trainers, and puts you right on the doorstep of Elwynn Forest and Westfall. You’ll usually arrive at level 12 or 13, which is a little ahead of a human who started in Northshire, so the usual route is to pick up the remaining quests in Elwynn Forest and then move on to Westfall for levels 12 to 18, which is where the Dalaran quest chain sends you anyway.

Landed in the Major city! – the quest should then take you to the secondary Quest, and introduce you to leveling areas appropriate for your level

You can skip Loch Modan entirely, since you’d arrive there overleveled for most of the start of it, and finish in Redridge Mountains to reach the beta’s current level cap of 20. This route is for the Alliance; if you take the Orgrimmar portal, you’ll be sent to the Horde’s zones instead.

The Horde has a similar frame that sends you to Undercity and urges you to start leveling in the Barrens, where you can stay until the level cap.

SkipLoch ModanYou’ll be over-levelled for most of it coming from Zephras Isle

For dungeons, run the Deadmines at around level 17, at the end of your time in Westfall, and fit in the Hall of Thanes under Ironforge, which is tuned for levels 13 to 18. Take the Deeprun Tram from the gateway on the northeast side of Stormwind’s Dwarven District to reach it, since the tram comes out in Tinker Town inside Ironforge. Some Alliance groups have also made the trip through Horde territory to reach the Horde’s new dungeon, the Ruins of Lordaeron above the Undercity, but that’s treated more as a community event than part of a normal route, and it’s fairly rare.

Elwynn Forest also has plenty of new quests in Forever. An Enticing Offer and Downstream are both around Goldshire.

Alliance or Horde, the route is almost the same

Skyborne can be either Alliance or Horde, and your choice at character creation decides your classes and which capital you end up in. Both sides can be Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, and Druids, but Alliance Skyborne can also be Mages, while Horde Skyborne can be Shamans. Alliance Skyborne are tied to the High Order, and Horde Skyborne to the Windshapers, which is why each side gets its own quests on the island, though both leave the same way.

Zephras Isle covers levels 1 to 12, so you’ll normally leave around level 10 to 12 once the island’s story is done. You can take the boat earlier, but the zone’s quests carry you through your first levels and a lot of reputation with the High Order and the Windshapers, so it’s worth finishing them before you go.

Getting back to Zephras Isle

The trip works in reverse: get to Dalaran and take the boat back to Valanaar. Zephras Isle is part of the Skyborne Heroic Pack, so characters without it can’t reach the island.

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
