The Ruins of Lordaeron has 10 quests in WoW Forever: 6 for the Horde and 4 for the Alliance. Horde players pick most of theirs up in Brill, the Undercity and the Sepulcher before going in, while all four Alliance quests start inside the dungeon, from Captain Truman at the entrance or from items you loot. Most of them pay a blue item, and the Unending Torment chain alone runs five parts deep in the Apothecarium.

It’s a new level 15 to 20 five-player dungeon in the ruined capital above the Undercity, and most of its quests can be accepted from level 15 or 16 even though the quest log marks them 21 or 22. A party around level 17 is the usual recommendation.

Where the Ruins of Lordaeron entrance is

The entrance is in the surface ruins of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades, on the eastern side of the main courtyard on the way to the Undercity elevators, behind an iron portcullis. Walk in as if you’re heading for the Undercity and it’s on your left. For the Horde it’s a short walk from Brill. Alliance players have a long trip, but the boat from Auberdine to the Wetlands now carries on to Southshore, which makes it much quicker. Take the Stormwind Harbor boat to Auberdine, then the Wetlands boat, and stay on board when it docks so it takes you on to Southshore. From there, stay on the road through the Hillsbrad Fields and around Dalaran to avoid the higher-level mobs in Hillsbrad and Alterac, cross the lake into Tirisfal Glades and head for the ruins. On a PvP server, expect to die a few times on the way in, and a warlock summon at the meeting stone saves the rest of the group the trip.

Horde quests to pick up before you go in

Four Horde quests have givers outside the dungeon, spread between Brill, the Undercity and Silverpine Forest, so plan a loop before you queue up. Deathguard Kristof stands at the profession camp southeast of Brill, Morbin Lightbane is a Forsaken paladin in the Royal Quarter, Theodore Griffs is in the Apothecarium, and Tabitha Heartweaver waits at the Sepulcher.

Rath’mael is the necromancer behind the unholy fog on the Lordamere Overlook. The Intact Limbs for Light’s Justice drop from enemies throughout the dungeon, so loot everything as you clear. Tabitha’s husband Edward went to the graveyard in the ruins to look for their lost son and hasn’t come back, and our A Frightened Request guide covers that one step by step.

Our scouts indicate they’re being conjured by a new power within their ranks, a necromancer known as Rath’mael. We do not have the luxury of waiting this one out.

Two Horde quests start inside

When the abomination boss dies, its head falls off and you can loot the Abominable Head, which starts Unending Torment. It’s the longest quest line in the dungeon: five parts that take you to Master Apothecary Faranell in the Apothecarium, and the item reward comes at part 3. It isn’t shareable, so each player needs their own Abominable Head.

The Crest of Lordaeron is a weathered relic that can spawn in different places each run, so check them as you clear. It’s been found behind the door where a banshee pops out, in the room next to Bjork’s patrol (where a treasure chest can also spawn), and at the top of the stairs through the doorway just past Witherfang. It can probably spawn on the gargoyle towers too, which you reach by the spiral staircases in the pillars on the left and right of the ruins. The gargoyles up there cast a physical immunity shield, so stun them before the cast finishes. The Horde version goes to Oran Snakewrithe in the Undercity (73.6, 32.6) for 2,600 XP and a Small Sack of Gems. One player reported opening the door and killing the banshee three times without the crest appearing, which looks like a beta bug.

Alliance quests, and why three start inside

All four Alliance quests start inside the dungeon. Captain Truman gives two of them, Bloodied Insignia and Abominable Creatures, while he waits for his master, the Grand Marshal, to come back from the fight. The other two start from items you loot inside, and three of the four are handed in back in Stormwind. On the Horde side, Unending Torment reveals that the abomination’s head once belonged to a Grand Marshal of the Alliance, which tells you what happened to Truman’s master.

Remember That I Love You ties into the Horde story. The letter mentions a missing Heartweaver child, and the Orphan Matron sends you on to Avette Fellwood in Duskwood, who adopted Jeremy Heartweaver, the son Edward and Tabitha believe they lost. Part 2 rewards the Tarnished LocketTarnished LocketBinds when picked upNeck+5 Stamina+4 SpiritSell Price: 1118Not BiS at level 30: Ghostshard Talisman is better for tanks, a blue neck with +5 Stamina and +4 Spirit.

Captain Truman is on your left as soon as you zone in. The Alliance letter quest is short and only asks you to talk to people in zones you’ve already been to, and its second part gives the Tarnished Locket, which is probably your first necklace if nothing dropped one for you in the Hall of Thanes.

Which boss drops which quest item

The beta doesn’t lock the boss order, so treat the list below as a checklist of who to kill, and use the route in the next section to get around. Lordaeron Captain is a rare spawn, and Viktor the Vile is an optional secret encounter.

The best route through the Ruins of Lordaeron

The ruins aren’t linear. Between the fog and the fenced-off streets it’s easy to wander in circles, so it helps to have a plan before you go in. A group of level 17 or higher is the safe choice for everyone, including the tank. At 13 you’ll have a bad time.

From the entrance, skip the open courtyard and take the ramp and stairs down into King’s Alley, where the spiders are. Work through the doorways to Witherfang, then jump through the small archway beside him. The doorway on your left leads up a staircase where the Crest of Lordaeron often sits. Come back down, keep heading south to the Baron, then jump up the ledge in his room and over the wall behind him for a shortcut to Lordamere Overlook and Viktor the Vile. After Viktor, head north into Market Street for the Abandoned, carry on to Bjork, then turn back to the center of the ruins for Rath’mael, the last boss.

Kill XP is low, the quests are not

Kill XP in Forever dungeons has been cut right back, but the Ruins of Lordaeron quests pay a lot. Bring every quest you can, and loot the Baron’s head, since it starts Unending Torment for the Horde and finishes Abominable Creatures for the Alliance.

How to beat each Ruins of Lordaeron boss

There’s nothing wild here for a low-level dungeon, and most bosses can be stunned. The trash hits harder than you’d expect and some of it patrols quickly, so pull carefully.

BossWatch out for
WitherfangTwo adds and a poison on the tank
The BaronKnock Away hits hard and drops threat; he can be stunned
Viktor the VileClick the chimney fire for 5 waves, he comes in wave 6

BjorkA long patrol and a short anti-magic shell

Witherfang

Witherfang loot in the Ruins of Lordaeron: Witherbite Bracers, Segmented Spider Leg and Atrophic Girdle

Witherfang patrols King’s Alley with two adds, so clear enough of the spiders around him that nothing else joins in when you pull. Kill the adds first, then cleanse the poison he puts on the tank. The Baron

The Baron loot in the Ruins of Lordaeron: Meathook Slicer, Abomination Bones and Leftover Abomination Skin

Keep going through King’s Alley past the spiders until you reach the ghosts, then take the opening on your right and clear the two skeleton packs. The Baron is an abomination that hits hard, and his Knock Away does big burst damage that can kill a tank who isn’t topped up. It also drops threat, so the tank needs to taunt him back straight away. He can be stunned, and rotating stuns through the group makes the fight much easier.

Viktor the Vile

Viktor the Vile loot in the Ruins of Lordaeron: Bloodied Chestwraps, Vilewalkers and Vileblood Scimitar

Viktor is on Lordamere Overlook. Jump the wall behind the Baron, clear the trash and find the ruined house on the far right. Click the fire in the chimney to start 5 waves of adds, and Viktor comes out in wave 6. There’s no time to drink between waves, so Paladin tanks should save their mana. He’s a beast, not undead, poisons his target and hits hard. Viktor can bug out

In the beta, clicking the chimney sometimes does nothing, and sometimes the adds come out but Viktor doesn’t. If that happens, carry on with the rest of the dungeon and try him again on your next run.

The Abandoned

The Abandoned loot in the Ruins of Lordaeron: Scepter of the Abandoned, Grip of Fear and Rotmender's Leggings

The Abandoned is in the next area north of Viktor’s house, on Market Street. Walk through the entryway and a statue summons 3 waves of adds, with the boss coming out in wave 4. He chills anyone who hits him, casts Frost Nova, and channels Drain Life on the tank. Drain Life has a cast time, so stun him before it finishes and it never goes off.

Bjork

Bjork loot in the Ruins of Lordaeron: Corpse Chopper, Bonerust Leggings and Tuskwrap Belt

Bjork patrols a long path further down Market Street, in the middle of the ruins, so clear the trash along it before you pull him. He swings slowly and casts a very short anti-magic shell, and that’s all there is to him.

Rath’mael

Rath'mael loot in the Ruins of Lordaeron: Mirror of Rath'mael, Coldspire Staff and Rotmender's Treads

Rath’mael is the final boss, in the center of the ruins. Before you reach him you’ll clear several packs of ghouls that hit hard and stand close together, so pull them one at a time. He drops Flamestrike on the ground, so move out of it and he goes down easily. Horde players need to kill him for The Wrath of Rath’mael.

Edward Heartweaver’s body lies next to him. Horde players need it for A Frightened Request, and Alliance players will find the Blood-Stained Letter beside it, which starts Remember That I Love You.

Ruins of Lordaeron quests FAQ

How many quests are in the Ruins of Lordaeron?

There are 10 in total, 6 Horde and 4 Alliance. Unending Torment has four more parts after the first, and Remember That I Love You has a second part in Duskwood, so the full count runs higher once you follow the chains.

What is the best route through the Ruins of Lordaeron?

Start in King’s Alley with Witherfang, carry on south to the Baron, jump the wall behind him to Viktor the Vile on Lordamere Overlook, then head north up Market Street for the Abandoned and Bjork, and finish with Rath’mael in the center. The dungeon isn’t linear, so you can change the order.

What level do I need for Ruins of Lordaeron quests?

Most can be accepted at level 15 or 16, while the quest log lists them at 21 or 22. The dungeon is tuned for 15 to 20, and a group around 17 is the usual recommendation.

Where does Unending Torment start?

It starts from the Abominable Head, which you loot from the abomination boss after it dies. Right-click the head to accept the quest, then take it to Master Apothecary Faranell in the Apothecarium.

Why can’t I find the Crest of Lordaeron?

Its spawn moves between runs, so check the side rooms and the tower near the entrance. One player has also reported a bug where the crest doesn’t appear after the banshee behind the door dies, and there’s no fix for that yet.

Can Alliance do the Ruins of Lordaeron?

Yes. Alliance players have four quests here, two from Captain Truman at the entrance and two from items inside, handed in at Stormwind. The quickest way there is the Stormwind boat to Auberdine, then the Wetlands boat, staying on board to Southshore, and walking north through Hillsbrad around Dalaran into Tirisfal.

Where is Tabitha Heartweaver?

She’s at the Sepulcher in Silverpine Forest, around 44.5, 43.0. She gives A Frightened Request, the Horde quest to find her missing husband Edward in the ruins.
