The Forza Horizon 6 Series 1 Treasure Hunt sends players to the Ohtani Region in search of a hidden chest worth 100,000 Credits and 3 Festival Playlist Series Points. The full location, step-by-step route, and photo clue breakdown are below.

Ohtani Region Treasure Chest Location

The Series 1 Treasure Chest is hidden in the rear garden of Kinkaku-Ji Temple, in the Ohtani Region just north-west of Tokyo. The chest sits on the dirt path that loops around the small pond behind the temple, a short drive south-west of the main Festival Site.

North-west of Tokyo, South West of the Horizon Festival Site – Look for a Kinkaku-Ji Temple, follow the Dirt Road around the large lake until you find the Treasure Chest
Follow the path around until you see a Cyan Box with Streaks of other colors – drive through it to claim the 100,000 Credits and 3 Series Points

Quick Answer

Region: Ohtani (north-west of Tokyo). Landmark: Kinkaku-Ji Temple. Exact spot: rear pond garden behind the temple. Distance from Festival Site: under a minute south-west.

Step-By-Step Route From the Festival Site

1

Head South-West From the Festival Site

From the main Forza Horizon 6 Festival Site, drive south and slightly west. Look for a small cul-de-sac road branching off the main dirt path.

2

Turn Left Through the Temple Gate

Leave the main dirt path and take the left turn that leads through a traditional Japanese temple gate. This road heads directly toward Kinkaku-Ji Temple.

3

Loop Around the Temple Grounds

Once inside the grounds, follow the path either right or left. Both directions form a loop around the temple, so either route reaches the rear of the building.

4

Find the Chest in the Rear Pond Garden

At the back of Kinkaku-Ji Temple is a small garden overlooking a pond. The bright cyan Treasure Chest is sitting on the dirt path that runs around the lake.

5

Drive Straight Into the Chest

Smash the chest by driving into it at any speed. The reward is awarded instantly and the Festival Playlist entry updates to Gold.

Once Collected, you should see a congratulatory Message saying you found 100,000 Credits
Visual Cue

The Treasure Chest is a vivid cyan crate with multicoloured accents. If you are sweeping the temple grounds and not seeing it, you are on the wrong side of the building, keep driving the loop until the rear pond garden comes into view.

Ohtani Treasure Hunt Rewards

The Ohtani Region Treasure Hunt pays out a strong reward for an activity that takes less than a minute once you know where to look. Points earned here feed directly into Series 1 Festival Playlist progression and exclusive car unlocks.

Reward Amount
Credits Credits (CR) 100,000
Series Points Festival Playlist Points 3
XP Driver XP Awarded on pickup
Playlist Status Festival Playlist Entry Gold (complete)

Series Points are the primary currency for Festival Playlist progression and exclusive Series 1 cars. For the full Playlist reward tier breakdown, see the Forza Horizon 6 Festival Playlist Guide.

Reading the Photo Clue Yourself

If you want to track the chest down without following the route directly, the Series 1 photo clue gives two strong hints. The image shows the Treasure Chest sitting in a Japanese garden behind a traditional temple, with a small pond visible nearby.

Pressing LB will reveal the region where your cursor currently is; the treasure chest is typically found near an iconic landmark / somewhat of a recognizable location

Identify the Region First

Open the world map and press LB (Xbox), L1 (PlayStation), or Page Up (PC) to toggle the regional overlay. The Ohtani Region is highlighted slightly north-west of Tokyo and contains the main Forza Horizon 6 Festival Site.

Match the Photo to a Landmark

The Series 1 photo clue points to a temple with a rear pond garden, namely Kinkaku-Ji Temple in the Ohtani Region. Identifying the landmark first usually solves the clue faster than scanning the whole region.

What Is the Treasure Hunt in Forza Horizon 6

The Treasure Hunt is a recurring weekly Festival Playlist event in Forza Horizon 6. Each week, a Treasure Chest is hidden somewhere in a specific region of Japan, and players use a photo clue plus a region clue to track it down.

Unlike Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5, the Series 1 Treasure Hunt format no longer requires a separate challenge. You only need to follow the photo clue, drive to the location, and break open the chest.

Because the location rotates every week, the Ohtani Region chest is only available during the Series 1 rotation. In the later weeks, players will be sent to different regions across Japan.

Drive an Off-Road Car

Many Treasure Hunt locations sit off the paved road network. Switching to a dirt or cross-country vehicle before starting the hunt saves time when the chest is hidden in temple grounds, forests, or mountain trails.

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
