This guide breaks down the exact XP buffs to keep active, the priority order for daily roulettes, and the best content to spam at each level bracket from 1 all the way to 100. It works for tanks, healers, and DPS, though DPS players lean harder on filler content between queues.

- Frequently Asked Questions
Expect to hit 100 on a fresh alt in roughly 3 to 5 days of active play with the Armory Bonus and daily roulettes alone. Push harder with deep dungeon spam and beast tribe dailies if you want it done in a weekend.
Quick Answer
First job: complete the MSQ. Every alt after: daily Leveling Roulette + Frontline + Trials, then spam Palace of the Dead 51-60 (levels 1-60), Heaven-on-High 21-30 (levels 61-70), Bozja (71-80), Endwalker Alliance Raids (80-97), and dungeon spam (97-100). Keep food, Heat of Battle, and rested XP active at all times.
XP Buffs You Should Always Have Active
Stacking XP buffs is the single biggest lever in FFXIV leveling. Most of them are permanent once set up, so the effort is front-loaded and you reap the reward on every job afterward.
Rested XP
Rested XP grants a 50% bonus to XP gained from defeating enemies. You accumulate it by logging out inside a Sanctuary, which is any zone with an Aetheryte such as a city, town, or inn.

The bar shows rested XP as a darker yellow segment, and if you have enough to cover the whole level, it turns blue. Rested XP only applies to enemy kills, so it boosts dungeon boss kills but not the roulette completion bonus itself.
Food, Heat of Battle, and Battle Manuals
Any food item grants a 3% XP bonus from enemy kills for 30 minutes, no matter what it is. Buy a stack of boiled eggs from a culinarian vendor for 5 gil each and keep the buff running permanently.

Heat of Battle is a Free Company action that adds 5% to 15% bonus XP for 24 hours depending on the tier. Squadron Battle Manuals (unlocked through your Grand Company squadron) give a flat 15% for 2 hours but do not stack with Heat of Battle, so the stronger of the two takes over.
Join a large, active Free Company as soon as possible. Bigger FCs earn more company credits, meaning Heat of Battle stays running consistently. Look on Reddit or Discord if you don’t have friends in-game; most FCs accept anyone with no social pressure to chat.
Road to 100 (Preferred World Buff)
The Road to 100 buff, also called the Preferred World buff, doubles ALL XP sources (not just enemy kills) for jobs below level 90. It applies after every other bonus, so it multiplies the value of your food, Armory Bonus, and gear.
There are currently none; this is usually a combat against popularity disparities.
The catch is you have to create your character on a Preferred World, which is why this is mostly a new-account perk. It lasts 90 days from character creation, so plan your leveling grind accordingly if you have it active.
XP-Boosting Gear
A handful of accessories provide permanent XP boosts and should be worn on every leveling job. The Brand-new Ring (from Hall of the Novice) gives 30% bonus XP at or below level 30, and the Bozjan Earring (from redeeming 1,000 Forgotten Fragments in Bozja) gives 10% up to level 80.

Pre-order earrings from each expansion (including the Azeyma Earrings for Dawntrail) grant a 30% XP bonus up to 10 levels before the current cap. These earrings scale as you level, so a single pair lasts most of the leveling process.

Armoury Bonus
The Armory Bonus is what makes alt leveling so fast in FFXIV. Any job below your highest-level job earns 100% bonus XP from enemy kills, dropping to 50% for the final 10 levels (so 90 to 100 in Dawntrail).
This is automatic; you do not need to do anything. This is for alt leveling only, essentially.
The takeaway is simple: push one job to max first, then everything after benefits. Frog-leaping multiple jobs at the same level wastes the bonus, so pick a main and commit to it.
| Buff | Bonus | Applies To | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rested XP | +50% | Enemy kills only | Log off in Sanctuary |
| Armoury Bonus | +100% / +50% | Enemy kills | Below your highest job |
| Road to 100 | +100% | All XP sources | Preferred World only |
| Food | +3% | Enemy kills | Any food, 30 min |
| Heat of Battle | +5% to +15% | Enemy kills | Free Company action |
| Battle Manual | +15% | Enemy kills | Squadron priority mission |
| Brand-new Ring | +30% | Below level 30 | Hall of the Novice |
| Bozjan Earring | +10% | Up to level 80 | 1,000 Forgotten Fragments |
| Pre-order Earring | +30% | Under expansion cap -10 | Pre-order bonus |
Once you reach Idyllshire, pick up a Wondrous Tails book from Khloe Aliapoh every week. Filling out any 9 tasks and turning it in awards exactly half a level of XP on the job you turn it in with. It is one of the most concentrated XP rewards in the game.
Daily Roulettes Ranked by XP
Daily roulettes are the single most important activity for leveling any job past 16. Each one grants a huge XP bonus the first time you complete it that day, and you can re-run the same content as many times as you like for the base XP afterward.
If time is short, prioritize from the top of the list down. Leveling Roulette and Frontline are the two you should never skip.
| Priority | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling | 1 (Highest) | Best XP per minute; unlocks at level 16 |
| Frontline | 2 | PvP; job you queue with earns XP even if you swap inside |
| Trials | 3 | Very fast queues; XP is competitive with Leveling |
| Main Scenario | 4 | Long but high reward; put a video on second monitor |
| Alliance Raid | 5 | Variable clear time; XP scales to compensate |
| Normal Raid | 6 | Similar to Trials but less XP |
| High-Level Dungeons | 7 | Skippable for most players |
| Guild Hests | 8 (Lowest) | Only do 3 or 10 for the weekly Challenge Log XP |
When you queue Frontline, whichever job you enter with is the one that earns the XP. Once inside, swap to whatever job you actually enjoy playing. This makes Frontline the only roulette where DPS queue times never affect the job you are trying to level.
Leveling by Level Range
What you spam between roulettes changes as your job climbs. The best XP-per-hour content shifts every 10 to 20 levels, so knowing where to focus at each stage matters more than raw grinding.
Levels 1 to 16
Before roulettes unlock, focus on job quests and your class Hunting Log. Job quests grant new abilities plus a decent XP chunk, and clearing early Hunting Log ranks handles the first few levels almost by itself.

FATEs in starting zones are also worth doing here since the XP-per-level requirement is small. At level 15, head to Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan and register for Hall of the Novice to grab the Brand-new Ring.
Levels 16 to 60 (Palace of the Dead)
Palace of the Dead unlocks at level 17 through the quest “The House That Death Built” in New Gridania. It is a rogue-like deep dungeon with its own leveling system and no role restrictions, meaning you can queue with four DPS or even go in solo.
Push through floors 1 to 50 once to unlock the floor 51 checkpoint. From there, spam floors 51 to 60 repeatedly, since the XP is on par with dungeon spam and queues fill fast.
Once you outlevel Palace of the Dead’s floor 51 to 60 range, XP slows considerably. Heavensward dungeon spam is the fallback here, and there’s no way around it. Use Duty Support if queues are painful, but real player groups are always faster.
Levels 61 to 70 (Heaven-on-High)
Heaven-on-High is the Stormblood deep dungeon and picks up where Palace of the Dead leaves off. Reach the floor 21 checkpoint on your first clear, then spam floors 21 to 30 the same way.
Duty Support is available if queues are slow, but a pre-made group with two DPS blasts through faster. This is your main filler between the Leveling Roulette and daily beast tribe quests.
Levels 71 to 80 (Bozja)
Bozja (Bozjan Southern Front and Zadnor) unlocks at level 71 after completing the Return to Ivalice alliance raids and the “Hail to the Queen” quest line. It is a large-scale open-world zone with skirmishes, Critical Engagements, and Fates that reward absurd amounts of XP for the time invested.
Kill mech enemies to spawn skirmishes, then opt into Critical Engagements when they appear (they reward roughly double to triple the XP of a normal Fate). Bozja is competitive with dungeon spam right up to level 90, and it is the fastest content in the game for this range.
Levels 81 to 90 (Eureka Orthos and Alliance Raids)
Eureka Orthos is the Endwalker deep dungeon and covers roughly levels 81 to 90 (with some viability up to 100). Reach the floor 21 checkpoint and spam 21 to 30 for consistent XP if you have a pre-made ready.
For everyone else, the Endwalker alliance raids (particularly Aglaia) are the top pick. A single AAI run rewards around 10 million XP, and queues are quick since players actively farm it for leveling.
Levels 91 to 100 (Dawntrail)
The Endwalker alliance raids (Aglaia, Euphrosyne, Thaleia) remain the strongest source of XP through most of the 90s, especially with the Azeyma Earrings equipped. The earring drops you to level 90 inside the raid, which reactivates its bonus.
Once you hit level 95 without the earring (or 97 with it), high-level dungeon spam overtakes alliance raids for pure XP-per-hour. Mix in Dawntrail FATEs while queuing to squeeze out extra XP between duty pops.
If you play tank or healer, 90% of the leveling process outside of roulettes is just dungeon spam thanks to instant queues. Bozja is roughly on par at 71 to 80, and AAI is still worth running at 90+ for the alliance raid roulette bonus.
Filler Content Between Queues
DPS players spend a lot of time waiting on duty queues, and the best leveling strategies use that time productively. Every item below can be done while sitting in queue with almost no risk of losing progress.
Allied Society Daily Quests
Allied Societies (formerly Beast Tribe quests) are your best passive XP source once past level 40. You are capped at 12 quests per day across all societies, so pick the two to four highest-level ones your job can access.
For quick reference: Vanu Vanu and Vath at level 50+, Kojin and Ananta at level 60+, Pixies at level 70+, Arkasodara at level 80+, and Pelupelu at level 90+. Skip the A Realm Reborn tribes entirely since their XP is atrocious.
Daily Hunt Marks
Once your Grand Company rank reaches Second Lieutenant, you unlock daily hunt bills from your Grand Company Hunt Board. Every expansion has its own board, and each grants a set of daily marks worth a solid chunk of XP.
Three Arkasodara-tier daily hunts award roughly the same XP as clearing the High-Level Dungeons Roulette, so this is significant XP for a small time investment. Skip the A Realm Reborn hunts (bad XP) and any Elite marks (near-zero XP).
FATEs
FATEs are best treated as queue filler rather than a dedicated grind, especially after level 50 where they slow down significantly. Head to a level-appropriate zone and start clearing whatever pops.

You still get the FATE reward as long as you are in the zone when it resolves, even if you get pulled into a duty midway through. Shared FATEs are worth completing for bicolor gemstones on top of the XP.
Hunting Logs
Class Hunting Logs are somewhat useful, but only if you happen to be nearby the targets already. Chasing marks across multiple maps for a single class is a poor use of time compared to roulettes or Palace of the Dead.

Personally, I found Hunting Logs genuinely fun once I unlocked flying and started leveling three or more alts at similar levels. Many classes share hunting log targets or rough locations, so a single mob can tick multiple logs at once, which turns an otherwise slow grind into fairly efficient parallel progress.
If you are only leveling one job, skip Hunting Logs unless a mark happens to be near where you already are.
Challenge Log
The Challenge Log (accessed via the Logs menu) has a mix of daily and weekly tasks worth a percentage of your current level’s XP. The best entries are “Feeling Lucky” (15% for three roulette dungeons), “Dungeon Master” (10% for five dungeons), and the FATE and Guild Hest entries.

Weekly Challenge Log tasks reset every Tuesday. Even the low-value entries add up if you are already doing that content anyway.
Alternative Leveling Strategies
Some players prefer methods that break the standard roulette rotation. These are all viable if the pace suits you, though none are strictly faster than the mainline strategy.
Squadron Command Missions
Grand Company Squadrons can run dungeons alongside you as an alternative party. The optimal comp is a Marauder tank, a Conjurer healer, and one or two Arcanist DPS, all set to Offensive Battle Tactics with five pips of stats.
A well-tuned squadron actually outperforms Duty Support and can rival real player groups up to level 60. Past that, matchmade groups are faster.
Bozja Skirmishes and Critical Engagements
If you enjoy large-scale zone combat, Bozja and Zadnor are extremely efficient from 71 to 80 and remain competitive through 90. The more players stampeding around the zone, the faster fates resolve.
Just be aware the Bozjan Earring’s XP bonus does not apply inside Bozja since the XP comes from skirmish rewards rather than direct enemy kills.
Aglaia Alliance Raid Spam
Repeated Aglaia (AAI) runs at level 90+ are competitive with the highest-level dungeon spam until you hit 97. Euphrosyne and Thaleia also work but AAI has the shortest clear time of the three.
The strategy only works when other players are actively farming, so check the queue times first. If DPS queues stretch beyond 20 minutes, dungeon spam is faster overall.
