Chocobo Barding Showcase – FFXIV

Chocobo Bardings in Final Fantasy XIV offer a way for players to personalize their companion mount with a variety of themed armor sets. While bardings serve no combat function, they allow for visual customization of a player's Chocobo by altering its head, body, and leg appearance. These cosmetic sets are widely sought after by collectors and players looking to match their mount to their character's gear or seasonal event themes.

Wondering some easy-to-get Chocobo Bardings in FFXIV? Many players share this assumption, believing that barding is locked behind difficult content or limited-time rewards, but several options are easily accessible. Some can be obtained naturally while progressing through the Main Scenario Quest, others are listed for affordable prices on the Marketboard, and a few more appear during Moogle Treasure Trove events via the Itinerant Moogle. This guide highlights some of the most accessible Chocobo Bardings in the game, focusing on those that require minimal effort, no raiding, and a low gil investment.

What is Chocobo Barding FFXIV

Chocobo Bardings in Final Fantasy XIV are cosmetic armor sets that players can equip on their personal Chocobo mount to change its appearance. Each barding typically consists of three parts: head, body, and legs, and can be mixed and matched for customized looks. Do note that they do not change the color of the Chocobo.

Default barding

Grand Company Barding

Comes with the Chocobo.

No Barding equipped

By Default, this will be the Grand Company armor of the chosen Grand Company, which is automatically applied to the Chocobo once the Chocobo Mount is unlocked. You can choose to unequip this to have the plain Chocobo cute look or to represent your Grand Company; the Lominsan Barding is pictured above.

How to use Chocobo Barding in FFXIV

To use Chocobo Bardings, first ensure that they have been redeemed from your Inventory. You can do this by right-clicking on the Barding and selecting “Use.” Once redeemed, you can apply the Barding to your Chocobo by navigating to the Character tab and then selecting “Companion.” In this section, you will find three slots for gear, which you can customize as needed.

Easy Bardings to get for Chocobo Mount in FFXIV

This is a list compiled for the difficulty of attaining the Bardings; they all have distinctive styles that could suit different themes.

Achievement Vendor

These Bardings are available from the Achievement Vendor <Jonathas> in Old Gridania, for a relatively low and easy-to-attain 3 Achievement Certificates each.

Flying Saffron

The Flying Saffron Headpiece sosts 3 Achievement Certificates.

Wild Rose Barding

Wildrose Barding Costs 3 Achievement Certificates.

Barding of Light

Barding of Light Costs 3 Achievement Certificates.

Black Mage Barding

Black Mage Barding Costs 3 Achievement Certificates.

Firstly, we have the Black Mage Barding, which is one of my favourite Chocobo Armor sets, as this is beautifully unique and resembles potential Black Mage riders.

Secondly, we have the Barding of Light, which has a quite brightly colored appearance, featuring purple and yellow. This appearance would suit those attempting to fit a retro theme, as it gives that vibe.

Then we have the Wild Rose Barding, which is a beautifully designed Chocobo Amor set that resembles the Wild Rose Set characters can collect. The Character also wears an orange bandana on their head, similar clothing, and style. If players manage to collect both, this makes for a great combination of character and mount.

Finally, we have the Flyer’s Saffron headpiece, which is a slight outlier from this section, as it features only the headpiece rather than the body and leg pieces. This is the stereotypical pilot’s headgear, and personally, it looks nice when the Chocobo is wearing no gear other than the Flyer’s Saffron goggles.

Itinerant Moogle

This Barding is available from the Iterant Moggles in Major Cities, near the Aetheryte, for 30 Tomestones of Allegory attained from specified Dungeons.

Machinist Barding

Machinist Barding, Costs 30 Tomestones of Allegory

The only barding available from the Treasure Trove Vendor is the Machinist Barding. This simplistic design features black, white, and gold colors, intended to resemble those of the Machinist class. While this barding is among the more basic options, it could complement specific themes, especially those related to Ul’Dah, due to their similar color schemes.

Market Board

These Bardings are available for purchase from the Market Board (Auction house / Marketplace)

Bardings are typically acquired through specific methods associated with each mount. For instance, participating in Racing can earn you some Bardings, while the Abyssal Barding or Barding of Eternal Darkness can be crafted by an Armorer. Additionally, some Bardings can be purchased from the FFXIV Online Store for a few dollars. Players can also buy Bardings from the Marketboard using Gil, often at a relatively low price, allowing them to bypass the time investment that sourcing Bardings may require.

Bozjan Barding

Bozjan Barding, Costs 20,000 Gil on the Market Board

Sophic Barding

Sophic Barding, Costs 95,000 Gil on the Market Board

Zurvanite Barding

Zurvanite Barding, Costs 105,000 Gil on the Market Board

Blissful Barding

Blissful Barding, Costs 95,000 Gil on the Market Board

Chosen for being the Cheapest Barding on the Marketboard, we have the Bozjan Barding, a suit of armor that resembles the Bozjan Resistance Armor, a grizzled Brown Steampunk-y Leather set that the character can also match with their own Bozjan Set attained from the level 80 Raid. This can also drop from Zandor Lootboxes.

Next, we have the Sophic Barding. I rather like this barding, the Sophic Barding set reminds me of Loki from Marvel, with its’ Golden Horns and mystical styling, almost as a direct upgrade from the previously mentioned Machinist Barding Set. Armorers could also craft this.

The following Barding, the Zurvanite Barding, is the only Barding that has red as its primary color. ‘ This demonic barding with teeth is a wonderfully unique Chocobo Style that could match that of many Dragoon sets.

Finally, we have the Blissful Barding, which resembles another mount in FFXIV, the Blissful Kamuy, obtainable through the Treasure Trove Event, alongside other mounts, which is covered here.

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
