This page will cover 8 Cheap Mounts on the FFXIV Market. Please note that these prices are subject to change, although the general pricing is expected to remain stable. You will need to have unlocked the Chocobo Mount to ride any mount.

Final Fantasy 14 is a massively online multiplayer RPG where players can create their characters, explore beautiful worlds, and take on quests. As players level up, they unlock mounts, beginning with a Chocobo Mount obtained through a short side questline acquired after level 20. They can also earn additional mounts, like the Black Chocobo, by completing main story quests.

Players often see others zooming around on unique mounts, such as flying motorbikes, flying chairs, mech suits, and even flying hands. It’s no wonder that many players feel the urge to acquire more mounts themselves. One convenient option is to use FFXIV’s in-game marketplace, known as the Marketboard, which can be found in most major cities near NPC market stalls. Here, players can purchase new mounts at reasonable prices.

Where to buy mounts

Mounts can be purchased through the Marketboard, a large in-game notice board that functions as an auction house, allowing players to sell items at their own set prices.

  • Limsa Lominsa, the notice board can be found near the Aetheryte Plaza, where players initially spawn in, in Hawkers Alley.
  • New Gridania, it can be found on the right side of Old Gridania.
  • Ul’dah, the marketplace is found in the Steps of Thal.

Mounts in the Marketboard

Although there is no distinct way to filter and view all mounts in one place, players can search for specific mount names in the search bar at the top to find the desired mount.

Through this page, players will be able to view the names and search for terms on the market board, choosing which ones they prefer to buy.

While the exact prices shown are based on Spriggan Servers in the Chaos Data Center, prices are generally similar across all servers and data centers.

Players can search for the first word of each mount, which should narrow down the search terms enough to identify the correct items needed for the mount quickly.

1

Gabriel α Mount

The first mount on this list is the Gabriel α Mount, the most affordable option. Players can buy the Gabriel Identification Key, which costs 9,800 Gil on the Spriggan Servers, which unlocks an airborne Mech suit Mount.

“Prior to building a full-sized prototype of a new transforming armor dubbed Gabriel, project engineers created this scale test model to perform aerodynamic testing. While it passed said tests with flying colors, it was observed that its engine may be prone to running hot.“

A Gabriel Mark III Identification key is also available for a much heftier 571,198 Gil. The difference between these two mounts is that the Mark 3 has a glowing decal and a golden colour overall.

Personally, this is my favourite mount from this list, as it is most distinctively unique and also the cheapest.

You can also unlock this by opening Southern Front Lockboxes, as the Identification Key has a chance to drop from them.

2

Antelope Stag Mount

For a relatively low price of 21,994 Gil, players can earn the Antelope Stag Horn and acquire the Antelope Stag as a mount, also seen in the game world in South Shroud as an enemy. The Antelope Stag is a sleek, small, black-and-white mount.

Another variation of the mount is available for 500,000 Gil, the Antelope Doe Horn. This is a variation of the Antelope Species, identified by the longer ears.

The Antelope can also be unlocked via specific currency, where it requires 30 Fête Tokens, which are gained through Fête Skyrise Celebrations, a timed event in Ishgard.

3

Petalodus Mount

Better described as a giant shark-human hybrid, this mount is acquired through the Petalodus Whistle, which can be bought for 18,900 Gil. This is another favourite of those with little Gil, as this amount can be gathered relatively quickly as players progress through the game naturally.

For reference, I completed the base game of FFXIV ARR with over 500,000 Gil, which is a typical amount to accumulate since I had not engaged in any additional activities to earn more Gil.

Alternatively, this mount can be acquired through Treasure Coffers in the Overworld or the Forked Tower.

4

Flying Chair Mount

Ideal for those who like to showcase their characters, outfits, or take photos. Once riding the Flying Chair mount, players will be sitting in a somewhat stylish pose, which can be used for travel. This quirky mount can be brought on the Marketboard for 94,498 Gil.

While this is relatively expensive to those covered so far, this is still an attainable amount for most FFXIV players.

Alchemists can also craft this, but the process could be expensive. If players don’t receive any additional benefits beyond this mount, it’s more cost-effective to purchase the mount from the Marketplace.

5

Construct 14 Mount

A large, knightly Black and Gold robot called the Construct 14 can be acquired through the Construct 14 Identification Key, bought for 156,450 Gil. This is a mount that seats the player on the Robot’s shoulder.

Alternatively, this mount can be acquired through Treasure Coffers in the Overworld or the Forked Tower, similarly to the Petalodus Mount.

6

Eldthurs Mount

This woolly, fiery giant yeti can be called using the Eldthurs Horn, which goes for 408,450 Gil on the Marketboard.

Also obtained through South Horn Coffers.

7

Eurekan Petrel Mount

Similar to a String ray in appearance, this flying aquatic mount is attainable through the Eurekan Petrel Horn, available for 265,548 Gil on the Market board.

Also obtained through South Horn Coffers.

8

Zu Mount

This long-necked, lava-themed bird mount can be brought on the Marketplace for 157,500 Gil. It is capable of going on land or in the air.

Another method to acquire this mount is through a Spoils Collector, which costs 1 Iron Voyage Spoil (from sector Sea of Clouds, sector 24).

Conclusion

Many of these mounts can be obtained through specific mechanics. Still, their prices are low enough that players might prefer to purchase them rather than spend hours trying to acquire them through one-time use mechanics typically introduced for specific mounts. To find more mounts to collect, check out this page.

These 8 mounts are unique, and their prices are affordable since they are not challenging to obtain in-game, regardless of how long it takes to acquire them. However, they serve as a fantastic starting point for a player’s collection of mounts, as each one is vastly different and distinctive.

The information gathered was from the author’s gameplay in the Spriggan Server, assisted by details from this informative website. Screenshots are done in-game and have been obtained through the Marketboard.

Hope this consolidated information assists many in starting their mount collections. Happy hunting!

Thomas has been writing game guides for over a year, covering whatever he's currently sunk into. He doesn't write about anything he hasn't actually played, which usually isn't a problem since he plays too much of everything anyway. Rocket League ate enough of his life to get him to Grand Champion, and he's got several max-level, fully geared characters sitting in World of Warcraft from various binges over the years. Recent obsessions include ARC Raiders, Battlefield, For Honor, and Rainbow Six Siege, with plenty of others in rotation. He's also worked behind the scenes for a well-known gaming creator on video production and editorial pieces, so the guides here are shaped as much by that side of the industry as by the hours logged in-game. Every tip, build, and location in his guides comes from his own playthroughs. If he hasn't tested it, it doesn't get published.
